Tips for importing Classic Cars

You finally find the classic auto of your dreams. Only problem is that it is in another country. What do you need to know in order to get that classic Aston Martin, or Ford Mustang imported? While it may be difficulty if is not impossible if you do your research. Investigate in order to make sure that the classic car seller is a legitimate business. This can be accomplished by calling local authorities or business organizations such as The Better Business Bureau (in the U.S.).
You must know the import laws for your country. Most countries have laws the limit the number of autos that can be brought into that country. However, these laws may not apply for a car that is over 25 years old and not intended for resale. It is suggested that the buy contact their local government to find out the laws for their country.
Know about your countries custom’s laws. Chances are that the buyer will not be able to take possession of his/her newly acquired auto before it is released from Customs. It is highly suggested that the buyer find out what documentation will be required by their countries Customs laws. Also, find out the Customs location of where your auto will be stored, whether or not you will be permitted to view the car upon it’s arrival, and the approximate length of time it will take for Customs to release your auto.
Find a reputable auto imported. The buyer should know if the importer is registered with the government, what its registration number is, and the safety record of the importer. Importing a classic auto required a lot of leg work. However, it is worth the time and effort if it means the buyer is getting the auto he/she has always dreamed of.
